I had this problem until I fixed it.
Problem: My screen resolution changed suddenly, the display was ACER LCD Monitor. . , but it changed to Generic non-pnp monitor.
Solution: What I did was to unplug the power supply wire that is plugged to the monitor when the PC was on. Then I plugged it back to the monitor after a few seconds. I was so happy that my screen resolution was all perfect again. Haha.
I hope this works for anyone having this problem too.
Did you ever get a solution to this. I have the same problem and pulling the plug on the monitor doesn t help. And I don t know why it would - the real problem is the non-pnp status.
i have the same problem, i have 3 viewsonics and i can get one to come up and the others are generic-non-pnp-monitor and it does not matter what monitor it is i can get any of them to work but only one at a time i have new drivers i tried pulling out the
power cord, nothing, at one time i had them all working just fine but now they all don t work, i do need to say that i did find a fix but i don t like it, if you are using a vga cord then find a d-sub cord and put a vga adapter on it and use that and it
will work but you will down grade the quality a little from the normal vga. if anyone finds a fix where i can use my vga cords i would love to know.
This problem is in Nvidia drivers
With 327.23 driver my GTX460 can t see DVI on ASUS VE228. 320.49 Driver has no problem when I roll back.
2 years my video cards, I have 3: GTX460 SLI, GT230 for PhysX can t identified my monitor.
I must use a Digital Flat Panel driver to run the monitor on 1920X1080 res.

I also had this problem but I was using two displays. Unplugging just one of my monitors didn t quite do the trick. What I ended up doing was unplugging both monitors from their power while the PC was on and then unplugging their DVI/VGA cables. Then
plugging the power back in, and the DVI/VGA cables back in. Worked like a charm.
This guy is a true legend. The method upplug the monitor s power plug and plug again solved the same problem in my screen resolution. Thank you for sharing this wonderful solution.
Yeah, a legend and a genius. It worked for me too, but I unplugged the DVI-monitor cable from the computer and plugged it in again. It worked immedatly.
This reminds my why i quit working with computers, hehe.
Btw, my problem arose when i tried to connect another monitor well, a Smart TV actually to the same graphic card. My Acer al2216wl monitor were displayed as a generic non-pnp-monitor and could just show 640x480 resolution, while my smart TV could display
