Bootable Diagnostics ISO image
You will need to download an ISO image to create the bootable generator. To download this image,
Click on the Lenovo Diagnostics - Bootable CD ISO file here
When the file Download window opens, click Save
Choose a folder to put it in and click Save
To create a CD image, right-click on the image after you save it, and select Burn Disk Image
The Lenovo diagnostics – Bootable USB is a diagnostic tool that can be booted by itself and tests the memory and hard drives in Lenovo ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, ThinkStation and ThinkServer.
The USB diagnostic took has to be created on a Linux system first, and only then can it be used on Lenovo computer regardless of what operating system the has once it is created. To download the Lenovo Linux Diagnostics – Bootable USB files, follow the instructions below:
To download the installation file, click here.
When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files
Please use a Linux system to prepare the bootable USB key. Existing files on the USB key will be overwritten.
The following packages must be installed your System prior to Generate the Bootable application. All this packages are provided by your Linux provider. For example RHEL or Suse website
Installing and Running Linux Bootable at a Linux Computer RHEL or Suse
Insert a USB key into your computer
Run . run file with root privileges and follow the instructions.
Restart your computer and select the USB stick as the boot device.
Lenovo Linux Diagnostics will be start automatically and you can use it to diagnose your hardware.
If no dependency is found, then the user is prompted to install them.
Next step is to choose which device to create the bootable Linux from the menu. Please choose the USB key you plugged in to create bootable linux.
A confirmation will be asked if you really like to format the USB key.
Notice, all data will be lost if the USB key is formatted.
Then, the creation process will be started. Do not remove the USB key during this process. The system will finally show successful information and ask to press any key.
Continue to press any key and then you can remove the USB key from the machine.
Boot the system with the USB key to start diagnostics.
Bootable Generator with User Interface
Make sure you have downloaded the ISO image file. Click here for the directions.
Your system may want to boot from the hard disk. To make sure that it boots from the removable media, click F12 to change the boot order

Save the file in the same folder as the image file
Go to the folder where you save the file and double-click the file to unzip
Double-click again to launch the BootableGenerator.exe file
Insert a USB key into your computer. Note that all data will be lost on this key when you create the bootable diagnostics
When the LenovoBootable Generator window opens, click on the Type pull-down and select Linux.
Select the USB key in the Available Removable Devices Window
The bootable USB will be created.
Bootable USB with the Command Line Interface CLI
If you do not want to use the user interface, you can use a command line interface to create a bootable USB on Windows, download the bootable diagnostics image from the Lenovo website.
Make sure you have downloaded the ISO image file Click here for the directions
To download the bootable-generator-10.exe file, click here
Copy the bootable-generator-10.exe file and the image file for example, linux-bootable-cd-2103639.iso into one folder
Plug a USB Key into your computer. Note that all data will be lost on this key when you create the bootable diagnostics.
Your system may want to boot from the hard disk. To make sure that it boots from the remov able media, click F12 to change the boot order.
Log in to Windows and launch command window with Administrator privilege
Navigate to the folder where the you copied the two files run this command:
bootable-generator-11.exe --create -l -u -f
is the new name of the USB key limit of 11 characters
is the drive letter assigned to the USB key
If the USB key you has been assigned as Drive I by Windows, and the image you downloaded is linux-bootable-cd-14.iso, and you name the USB key bootable, the command would read as follows:
bootable-generator-10.exe --create -l bootable -u i -f linux-bootable-cd-2103639.iso
At the prompt, type y and press the Enter key to format the USB Key and start to create the bootable diagnostics tool
There are two other switches accepted by this tool
--help Displays the help message for the tool
--List Lists all of the USB keys plugged in to the system

To download the Lenovo UEFI Bootable Generator.CMD file, click here
When the File Download window opens, click Save
When the next download window opens, click Save again
Unzip the uefi-bootable-generator-gui-xx.zip file
Plug the USB key into your computer. Note that all data existing on the USB key will be erased
Log on to Windows, go to the folder that you just unzipped and launch BootableGenerator.exe
Select the USB key that you would like to use for creating the bootable USB key
Type a new name to rename your USB key. If no name is provided the USB key will be renamed to LDIAG_UFI.
Click the Search button to locate the bootable image file. Select the uefi-bootable-xx.zip image file you just downloaded
Click the Generate button to start the process
Click Yes when the confirmation window appears.

Plug the USG key into your computer. Note that any data on the USB key will be destroyed during this operation.
Lot into Windows, go to the Windows Start menu and launch the command with Administrator privilege.
Navigate to the folder where uefibootableGenerator.exe is located and run this command: UefiBootableGenerator.exe –list
The window will display the drive letter of the USB key
