Easy fix, make IE run as admin.

I m having a similar problem. My files are ripped off CDs all bought legally but for some reason, on some CDs it has the license error opens a window in Chrome, says it can t find the license can t be downloaded because and won t play the song.

I searched DRM and found it in C/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows but there is nothing in the folder. Could this be why there are problems.

EDIT: The thing that s worked for me is making IE my default web explorer. Media player is now playing the songs although I do have to manually download the license, but that s as easy as clicking the download button - annoying, but easy to sort.

I have tried all of the procedures I have found in this and several web sites to install the DRM security update that I need to use Overdrive to download and listen to audio books from the library.  What works for many others does not work for me.  I reset

the DRM, run Internet Explorer as an administrator and go to the site to get update 2.5.0.1 for Window Media Player 12 on Windows 7.  I continually receive the message: Windows Media Player is not installed correctly.  Reinstall the player. after clicking

the Update button.  The update does not take place.

The only documented way I have found to re-install WMP is to turn off Windows Media Player under Control Panel s Turn Windows Features on and off.   I turn off the media player, restart the computer, then re-enable the media player from the Control Panel.

No joy.  The re-installed Media Player 12 will still not accept the DRM security update.

I haven t seen any other reports of the incorrect WMP installation message by others wrestling with the DRM issue.  Has anyone met and overcome this additional roadblock.

I found my own personal solution to the DRM won t upgrade problem I described in my post above.  I can t promise that it will work for everyone, but it resolved my dilemma.

I concluded that something had corrupted my WMP 12 installation in a way that uninstalling and reinstalling the player via the control panel Turn Windows features on and off procedure couldn t restore it.  I really didn t want to carry out a clean install

of Win7 from the installation DVD and spend weeks re-installing all my applications.  But I do back up my system drive frequently, and hoped that restoring the drive from a relatively recent backup might give me a valid WMP 12 installation and minimize the

time I needed to spend bringing my PC back up to the present.

In fact, this is what worked.  I have an August 19, 2013 backup image, and I was pretty sure that I could still download library books with Overdrive on that date.  Before carrying out the restore operation, I backed up my system to create a Sept 30, 2013 image.

That insured that I could at least recover the most current version of my system if desired, but also that I could transfer newer data files to the drive restored from the Aug. 19 backup if that solved my DRM problem.

After the restoration with the Aug 19 image, Windows needed to re-install updates, of course.  After that, I was delighted to be able at last to install the 2.5.0.1 security upgrade.  Overdrive now happily downloads audiobooks from the library.  And I have

transferred most of the documents and data I want from the Sept 30 backup.  My system is operating glitch-free, and I am smiling again.

I found my solution too.  I quit using Windows Media Player and Overdrive.  Once DRM is broken, it is so difficult, I just quit.  WMP lost a customer.  Overdrive lost a customer.

I am just about there.. I did what it said and renamed the DRM directory but the security component upgrade just says that WMP encountered a problem when opening the file.  So I still cant get it fixed.

You re a genius. Totally worked for me, thank you so much.
